Artist Application
Young Audiences New York invites NYC area based teaching and performing artists to join our roster twice yearly – in late summer (July/August) and early winter (December/January). YANY staff will only contact you to schedule interviews based on evidence of the criteria listed below and need of the particular performance genre or residency you propose at the time of submission.
To apply, download the Teaching Artist Application Cover Sheet (Word, PDF) and submit it with the following support materials:
1. A resume and biographical information. Performance ensembles must submit resumes and biographical information for each member of the group, plus the performance history of the group.
2. As relevant to the type of work you are interested in (see below), state the specific learning goals of a sample program (what do you want participants to know, understand, and be able to do at the completion of your program/s?) and include an outline that shows how your work meets those goals. Please submit one sample for each type of program you are interested in.

- Performance (include a script if possible; scripts are required for theater; and please include a synopsis or breakdown that indicates the structure of your interactive performance)
- Residency (residency outline should include a minimum of 10 sessions)
- Gear the outline towards the age range of your choice
- Class size for the outline is 25-30 students
- Professional development workshop for teachers, school administrators, parents, etc. (indicate target audience)
- Family workshop
- After school residency
3. A brief mission statement that describes the purpose of your work as an artist and arts-educator. In addition to, it is recommended that you include some of the following with your application:
- Written materials supporting your work, including (but not limited to) brochures, teacher preparation materials, news clippings, letters of recommendation, etc.
- Audio/visual materials supporting your work and/or your program(s), such as videotapes, audiotapes, or compact discs.

Young Audiences New York considers the following criteria when evaluating performance programs:

Artistic quality is high

Program is organized around certain “key” ideas

Ideas are clearly introduced (with student involvement if appropriate)

Ideas are reviewed at the close of program and/or at other appropriate moments

Ideas are illustrated/developed through performance moments

Students participate in the program in ways that further the artistic and educational goals of the program

Artists have an excellent rapport with students and display a keen enthusiasm for their material
-
Program design is innovative and well structured with a strong opening and closing and a diverse, age appropriate repertoire
